Most people know that fireworks can scare pets, but not many know that they cause damage in many other ways as well, such as causing various types of pollution, harming and killing birds and other wildlife, and impacting the health of the workers that make them.
A new plan by a U.S. federal agency puts as many as 1,000 wild horses in California at risk, by removing legal protections from slaughter and now allowing the horses to be sold “without limitation.” These wild horses deserve better than being forcibly removed from their home, only to be slaughtered and eaten.

This is a particularly critical election for animals, so it’s important that we turn out to the polls to support those who have expressed a willingness to join in the fight. Remember, you hold the power to make sure humane candidates get into Congress and stay there. Animals only win when humane candidates and issues do.
Founding Vafa ran counter to the dominant culture and it was thus not taken seriously. When people heard of what Vafa did for dogs, their response was likely to be mockery or even disbelief. Without water or electricity, without financial backing and with limited human resources, it had to face many difficulties in the beginning. But things changed.
I had a revelation: this is how homeless dogs and cats live every day. They lead precarious lives. They go days without adequate food and water. They don’t get medical care. They’re in constant danger and have to be watchful to the point of paranoia.
Compassion for hoarders is not misplaced if you recognize that most of them are in desperate need of psychological help. What hoarders do not need is the type of sympathy and support that enables them to continue harboring and acquiring even more animals.
