Islam does allow the consumption of meat and animal products, but it accompanies this with a list of strict conditions on how to treat the animals ethically and prevent their suffering as much as possible. It also does not prohibit veganism or consider it a sin. Thus, everyone has the complete freedom to choose a vegan diet and abstain from eating meat.

It is much easier to be cruel than one might think. There’s no doubt the creatures we farm to eat suffer, but we probably never see battery farm animals so it becomes easy to ignore. But lions? A beautiful near-endangered creature on Africa’s shrinking wildlands? Well, we drink them.

The demand for donkey skins, supposedly for medicinal purposes, continues in South Africa. The NSPCA has uncovered another horrific donkey killing site where hundreds of donkeys were illegally and brutally slaughtered on a farm in Olifantshoek.
