In a society where people do not value their companion animals, we educate them and work with them to improve the human-animal relationship. Liberia Animal Welfare and Conservation Society (LAWCS) provides responsible pet ownership training for pet owners and free veterinary care for animals in need. We believe that cruelty to animals is often caused unintentionally, but animals suffer as a result of lack of knowledge and information. That is why we put so much emphasis on education and information about animals along with practical care for animals. To love animals also means to know them well.
At one recent event, we provided a free veterinary clinic which treated 300 dogs with various conditions. We also educated dog owners about the basic needs of their animals.
Childhood is a time when one’s character is being formed. By explaining to children what it means to be human by examining our relationships to other creatures, we can help stop animal cruelty before it starts.
LAWCS believes that all change for the better begins with education. If we are to truly make a real difference for animals, we must begin by equipping the younger generation with knowledge about the welfare and rights of animals, who will go on to influence the present and generations to come. With this in mind, we run an animal welfare education program in various schools targeting over 10,000 kids per year.
