In a world in turmoil caused by war, economic pressures and environmental problems, it is easy to forget that we are not the only species living and surviving on this planet. Large scale interference by humans in the animal world and nature is causing immense suffering for animals and nature alike. Karuṇā, or compassion for all living beings, is the driving force to rescue and rehabilitate animals in distress.
We hope that compassion expressed in action will create a new balance in the human-animal-nature relationship. This is in the interest of all living beings.
This film is about the Karuna Society for Animals & Nature, a not-for-profit animal rights organisation in south India that works to rescue and rehabilitate animals.
Karuna is a safe haven for animals in distress, providing first aid and shelter for street dogs, cats and other animals, many of whom have been either injured in accidents or have suffered cruelty and abuse. Cattle are rescued from illegal transport to slaughter and wildlife, including injured monkeys, deer, birds and sloth bears are rescued and cared for.
