In the wake of two recent untimely orca deaths among the already-endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales, Lifeforce offers six ways to help protect the remaining orcas from the many anthropogenic threats they face today.
The Vancouver Aquarium’s plan to separate two nursing walrus pups from their mother is a cruel commercial ploy insensitive to the animals’ needs.
It is well known that the three main threats to orcas are lack of food, pollution, and boat traffic. In addition, aquarium captures performed in the 1960s and 70s wiped out a generation of young females and males, a loss to the species that has taken decades to recover from.
The Vancouver Parks Board has passed a total ban on the captivity of cetaceans. The amended Cetacean Bylaw will finally end cetacean suffering in the city of Vancouver, despite Aquarium business propaganda. This will help to guarantee the rights and freedoms of cetaceans worldwide!
Animal victims of St. Paul’s Hospital have included monkeys, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, rats, and mice. The hospital is planning to relocate to a new site in 2022, and Lifeforce seeks to stop any new animal labs from being built.
Canada’s proposed Marine Mammals Regulations fail to protect endangered orcas and other cetaceans. Lifeforce has started a petition to the government to increase the allowed distance between boats and orcas.
Animals at St. Paul’s Hospital have been subjected to various experimental surgeries, forced to inhale cigarette smoke, and much, much more. The lucrative animal research industry must not be allowed to continue this dark history of vivisection.
