People who care about wild animals, whether they be predators or wild horses, need to understand that livestock production (i.e., meat) is not a practice compatible with healthy ecosystems. Instead of always negotiating with livestock producers from the perspective that commercial operations always trump the people’s interest in protecting animals, take a proactive stand and declare that it is the livestock operations that should be circumscribed to protect wildlife and for the general public good so as to curb climate change and pollution and protect natural resources such as water. Of course, it helps if wildlife advocates themselves stop eating the meat that keeps wildlife in perpetual jeopardy.
