This is not a story but an appeal. I am the author of a full-length screenplay based on the chimp language experiments of the 1970’s, titled Lucy’s Room. It was a finalist in the Sundance/Sloan competition in 2018. It is a fictional account of a bright and energetic female chimp who learns over a hundred words in sign and acclimates herself to human life to such an extent that she thinks she is one. She lives for seven years with a family and is happy and loving, until her animal nature reasserts itself. It’s a story of good intentions gone bad, with tragic results for everyone involved, a cross between Born Free and Gorillas In The Mist. I am an experienced theatre writer but a Hollywood outsider. But I know that there are many actors who are animal advocates, and I am hoping that one of you reading this might know someone to whom I could send the script. Below is a brief synopsis. Thanks for any help you can be! Eric Conger Weehawken, NJ

Synopsis: It’s 1980 and Dolly the chimp can speak in sign, make tea, and charm the readers of Life Magazine. She and her parents are riding high, and life as a human is sweet. Until it’s not. Lucy’s Room: a story of good intentions and bad results.
