How about we stop protecting animal agriculture and eliminate the “looming threat of avian flu” by eliminating the poultry industry? At some point avian flu will mutate into just the right organism to decimate the human population, but in the meantime the cruelties inflicted on birds so that humans can eat them makes us morally deserving of a plague.
