As one who has witnessed it, I will say that there is in general a higher level of deliberate cruelty that seems to be inherent in the dog and cat meat trades (worse for cats even than dogs). Because dogs and cats will fight their killers with tooth and claw, restraint techniques used in slaughtering dogs and cats are violent, above and beyond the violence that is necessary to kill more docile species.
