The devil is in the details of the Chinese wildlife law, because people may be led to believe that the wildlife markets in China (primarily Guangdong) have closed down, but there are many wildlife species that are not designated as “rare,” so civets, rhesus macaques, and massive numbers of other wild creatures are still put into the pot or otherwise prepared as status cuisine.
