Ask the Catholic Church to condemn the bullfight!

0

I campaigned during 2016 for the Pope to condemn the bullfight. I asked caring people around the world to write to the Apostolic Nuncio (Pope’s representative) in their country, or to the Vatican, urging the Pope to condemn the bullfight. My appeal was posted in various publications and sites around the world: magazines, news agencies, newspapers, websites, Facebook pages, campaign publications, Catholic organisations, etc.

Many did write, but from feedback I received I believe that only one person received a reply, the editor of the publication The Positive Animal. As the reply did not address bullfighting or cruel fiestas, it was pointless. The editor was good enough to write back to the U.S. Nuncio calling out the omission.

If you think you may be able to get a reply from the Apostolic Nuncio in your country, answering a request for the Pope to condemn bullfighting and other cruel religious festivals, you can find the addresses of all the Nuncios here.

Just copying and pasting the following will help:

“Please ask Pope Francis to show his concern for creation by condemning the bullfight and directing that his Bishops officially proclaim his condemnation.”

Copy to the Vatican press officer, who also seems to ignore emails about the bullfight: burke@pressva.va

Become the first (well, second, technically) to get a reply, if you can! Contact me and let me know.

About Author

In response to Pope Francis’ call for dialogue and action concerning the care of our common home, Catholic Action for Animals (a group of Catholics in Milton Keynes) has set up a local parish group which meets once a month, to educate about and promote concern for our fellow creatures, and to be a witness to the Church’s concern for animals, There is much to do, as Catholic clergy are usually silent about animal matters, which is reflected in church-goers' attitudes towards animals.
